Height and Distance Formulas

Scenario Formula Description
Height using Angle of Elevation h = d × tan θ Height (h) = Distance (d) × tan(θ).
Distance using Angle of Elevation d = h tanθ Distance (d) = Height (h) ÷ tan(θ).
Height using Angle of Depression h = d × tan θ Height (h) = Distance (d) × tan(θ).
Distance using Angle of Depression d = h tanθ Distance (d) = Height (h) ÷ tan(θ).
General Right Triangle tan θ = Opposite Adjacent tan(θ) = Opposite ÷ Adjacent.
